Inthe first article of the resource section, William A. Linsley has compiled selected comments and opinions rendered by Justice Thurgood Marshall that bespeak his dedication to the First Amendment during his twenty-four years on the United States Supreme Court. For example, "The central lesson of over a half-century of First Amendment adjudication is that freedom is sometimes a hazardous enterprise, and that the Constitution requires the State to bear certain risks to preserve our liberty" (Jones v. North Carolina Prisoners’ Labor Union, 1977).

The other items in the resource section include "Political Trials and Prisoners in the United States: A Classified and Annotated Bibliography," compiled by James R. Bennett and Barbara Basore McIver, and a "Freedom of Speech Bibliography: January 1990–January 1992," compiled by Jennifer R. Dowd.

An expanded selection of thirteen book reviews makes up the final section of this issue.
