In Lawrence J. Marcus's Journeys of Discovery, twenty-one vignettes illustrate the progressive metamorphosis from a myopic early history with an aching need to travel and experience cultural diversity to travel on trains in North America, seven European countries, and South America. Air travel expanded to four continents and over sixty trans-Atlantic crossings. Many of the journeys are seen through the creative lens of an International Student Teaching Model, with sites in Africa, Europe, North America, and South America.
