Franklin Kelly is the Christiane Ellis Valone Curator of American Paintings at the National Gallery of Art and has published extensively on Cole, including definitive studies on paintings by the artist in the National Gallery, an essay on Cole’s images of Mount Etna, and the catalogue, Thomas Cole's Paintings of Eden.
