When he returned home from the war, Officer Miller was chosen to start a plainclothes unit that targeted burglaries, robberies, and other crimes in the crime-ridden suburbs of Washington, D.C. Years of unmatched success led to the formation of a permanent tactical, investigative unit.

First in uniform, then a detective, the author went on to become a homicide investigator, concluding his career as the sergeant in charge of the Homicide Cold Case Unit.
